How I Would Use the HP Mini 110 to Simplify My Life
Posted by Organizingguru at 8:37 PM Tuesday, January 19, 2010
So, I am a part of the Mom Bloggers Club and they have a contest going on about simplifying your life with the HP Mini 110.

I have been thinking about getting a mini computer for a long time. I reason that it could help me get a lot done on the road. My main website www.help-organize-life.com is full of helpful information to get people organized. I would be able to write more articles and research more helpful organizing products without having to drag my larger laptop with me where ever I go or wait until I get home to do my research and writing. I would also be able to blog and twitter more with my friends, family and colleagues. My iPhone is great, but I would rather not have to do writing on it.
I am also the secretary of my local NAPO chapter (NAPO Nashville) and it would be very helpful in the meetings to be able to take meeting minutes right then and there and email it out all before I get home where I would have to go home and type them in and then email them. The HP Mini 110 would help simplify this task and make me much more productive for my chapter.
I am also a professional organizer and having a HP Mini 110 would help me to be able to go to client consultations and input all of their information while I am there with them into my client intake form. I will also be able to take down notes and not have re-enter them when I get home making me more productive and simplifying my work life.
I also have a web design company and it would be really helpful to take a smaller laptop to show quick mock ups of websites for clients and to keep track of my hours during the meeting.
As far as simplifying my home life, I am always online at home on the coach and it would be nice to have something smaller sitting on my lap to watch Youtube videos and other online activities without having a heavy laptop on me. Sometimes I have to look online and get information fast and having to wait for my big laptop to wake up is a hassle. A HP Mini 110 would be very helpful for me to just pop it open and get to my information fast.
So that is how I would use the HP Mini 110 to simplify my life. Comment and let me know how you would use it to simplify your life. Technology is a wonderful thing when you use the HP Mini 110 to simplify your digital life!

Tools to Organize Your Closet
Posted by Organizingguru at 12:47 PM
I was looking at QVC today and I came across this wonderful product. I always have clients who want a better way to organize shoes, purses, whatever in their closets. Well, when I saw this item I had to let everyone know about this. This Carousel Closet organizer has so many possibilities. You can organize shoes and purses, or belts and undergarments, or toys and art work. You name it and I believe you can organize it in this "spinning" garment rack. And it is collapsible for easy storage when not in use.
I do not know how many they keep in stock but you need to get your hands on this one if you are looking for a great way to organize your closet. Happy Organizing.

iPhone for Organization
Posted by Organizingguru at 9:22 PM Thursday, January 14, 2010
Well, I have had my iPhone for quite a few months now and I am loving how I can keep everything organized together on it. I use my iPhone to keep my various social networking activities together, I use it for banking, I use it to read books, I use it to listen to music, I use it to access my task lists on Google, and I use it to just unwind. I am loving the Amazon Kindle app for iPhone. I find it is much easier for me to read books on my iPhone. It is weird, but it gives me a sense of accomplishment as I blast with a touch of a finger through the pages. Plus I don't have to buy that big $200+ Kindle from Amazon. The books are much cheaper also. I also use the Pandora app. This is great for me to unwind with and listen to uninterupted music. I am also using the Evernote app which lets me keep all of my notes, voice and text, synced between the iPhone, Mac and PC. And it is free! I am able to stay on top of billing with Freshbooks Minibooks for iPhone.
I can access my PC files with the Livedrive app for iPhone. I can do mobile banking with my banks app for iPhone. I am just loving all of the things I can do to keep organized with my iPhone and not have to carry around a laptop or bulky calendars. This is just the begining. I am constantly on the look out for more of what I can do with my iPhone to help keep me organized electronically.
If you would like to always be ready for tax time let me suggest Shoeboxed. You can sign up with them to have all of your receipts and business cards scanned electronically and then organized automatically for you. And the great thing about it is they have a iPhone app where you can take a picture of the receipt right from your iPhone and it sends it to your account. You don't even have to send in the receipt manually. How cool is that?! If you would like to learn more click the picture below to find out how you can get more organized with your receipts and business cards.

Until next time....Happy Organizing!

Cleaning Out Your Digital Closet
Posted by Organizingguru at 12:42 PM Friday, July 31, 2009
This article reminds me of why it is so important not to neglect your digital files when you organize. Especially photos. How many of us have a majority of our photos online or digitally stored instead of printed out somewhere? Plenty I would guess including myself. This article expresses some great ideas on cleaning out your digital closet too!

Too Much Organization!
Posted by Organizingguru at 2:22 PM Sunday, April 19, 2009
I was reading this article today (Got clutter?: Organizing - How much is too much? - Rochester, MA - Wicked Local Rochester) and it occurred to me that there could be too much organization. There is a such thing as Paralysis by Analysis. This just doesn't apply to reading. Trying to be super organized to the point of not doing anything at all till you get it correct is not much help either.
My advice to you when you decide to get started organizing is to start with basics. Don't over think what bins you will need. Just take it one drawer at a time. One space at a time.
You need to organize how you think and live. Not how a book tells you or how someone else does it. Organize your home to your personal taste. That way you will be more likely to keep it up.

How To Organize Your Lipsticks
Posted by Organizingguru at 1:26 PM Saturday, April 4, 2009
I ran across this video on Youtube that I thought was very clever for organizing your lipsticks. One thing I would add to this idea is that you can use a label maker to make little labels that lists the name of each lipstick color so you will know when it is time to go get some more or if someone asks what kind of lipstick you have on. I have a lot of lipsticks now and I am visual so this is a great idea that I can't wait to use. Check it out.

How To Hire A Professional Organizer
Posted by Organizingguru at 3:42 PM Wednesday, April 1, 2009
Have you ever wondered how to hire a professional organizer or what steps to take or how to prepare. This video shows you a great step by step approach for preparing to find a professional organizer. If you still have questions leave a comment and I will be happy to answer them.
I have to admit when I first looked at this video I had to laugh because a lot of times people try to clean or straighten before I come. But if you do that I can't get a true picture of how you live and your problem areas. This video gives you things to think about before you hire a professional and what it entails. But please keep in mind that all organizers are different and may have different ways of working. Not every organizer has a contract for you to sign and not every organizer bills you. So keep that in mind also when you are considering hiring an organizer.

Save money with a clean and green home
Posted by Organizingguru at 3:09 PM
I found this great story about getting ready for spring cleaning and saving money at the same time. The reason that I found this article so helpful is because in this down economy this is a great way to make your own products, save the environment and save some money. I also like how the author points out alternative uses for old dresses and pillowcases that may not be suitable for donating, but can be repurposed. Check it out. Maybe you can use some of these helpful tips to spruce up your home and go green.
